Urban Cash Support: 12,500 Families Set to Benefit in Mzuzu says Chimwendo

During President Chakwera’s visit to Mzuzu two days ago, Minister of Local Government, Unity, and Culture, Richard Chimwendo Banda, revealed that the government plans to provide urban cash support to over 12,500 families, totaling approximately 60,000 individuals residing in Mzuzu. Each eligible family will receive K150,000 per month as part of this initiative.

Furthermore, Minister Banda stated that a total of 105,000 families across all three cities are set to benefit from this program, while an additional 3 million families in rural areas nationwide will receive support through the social cash transfer program.

“Chimwendo said the visit by President Chakwera to the markets in Mzuzu came at a very important time as it gave the President an opportunity to interact with vendors and hear for himself the challenges faced by business operators and consumers respectively.

“You said Malawians are passing through tough times economically, and that you want residents in the cities of Mzuzu, Zomba, Blantyre, and Lilongwe to start receiving cash to cushion them during this hard time and here in Mzuzu over 12,500 families will be receiving K150,000 per month. My plea is that vendors should be included on the beneficiary list” said Chimwendo.

He then urged those entrusted to identify the beneficiaries to desist from corruption and favoritism during the exercise so that it benefits the needy.

In his speech, Member of Parliament for Mzuzu City, Bennex Mwamlima commended Chakwera for delivering numerous developments in all the three regions of Malawi amidst challenges including natural adversities.

“You are a leader who would not think of the next election, but you think of the next generation, and that is why you are even finishing projects started by other governments before you, because you care about Malawians” Said Mwamlima while urging Malawians to give President Chakwera all the necessary support.
