Thanks to Minister Kumkuyu; Peace returns to Limbe after Vendors violently stone Blantyre City officials

Peace back in Blantyre

In a situation which Minister of Information Moses Kumkuyu said was manipulated politically in Limbe Blantyre saw vendors showing unbridled anger, stoning Blantyre City Council officials who came to control street vending yesterday.  This is a sticky issue of plying trade in undesignated areas.

Following the Ministerial visit, Shire Times can confidently reveal that aanity has returned to Limbe after a consensus has been reached between the Blantyre City Council and street vendors following government intervention.

Moses Kunkuyu, who visited the vendors, assured them that key stakeholders will keep discussing the issue in subsequent meetings.

Kunkuyu said from Tuesday, 28 November all key stakeholders will be engaged in a series of meetings to map the way forward.

The minister, however, bemoaned the politicisation of the issue which he described as unfortunate.

“We know that there is politics involved in the matter, but this is a minor issue,” Kunkuyu said.

Vendors have been advised to proceed with business until a lasting solution has been reached on the matter.
