Opposition forces aimed to frame the ruling Malawi Congress Party for the military plane crash that killed Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima and eight others, but the investigation report has disproved this narrative, pointing instead to a shared national responsibility.
Analyst Lyson Sibande highlights that many Malawians are frustrated because they expected the report to confirm their suspicions against the ruling party. However, Sibande clarifies that this is an Interim Report, focused on establishing facts, not drawing conclusions. He emphasizes that such reports are meant to outline what happened and who was involved, without yet explaining why the accident occurred, as investigations are still ongoing.
“An Interim Report DELIBARATELY ignores to answer the question of why the accident happened because it is released preliminary. It avoids giving conclusions because it is released while the investigations are ongoing but facts have been completely established. The purpose is to give the public the facts and keep stakeholders updated about progress. It is actually a progress report,” he said.
Meanwhile, DPP propagandists are being ridiculed for spreading baseless theories about the plane being sabotaged.
