OPC Assures Swift Action: Mwanza Vigil’s Hendrina Kamenya to Receive Father’s Death Benefit Today

The Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) has pledged prompt action in response to Hendrina Kamenya, the girl who traveled from Mwanza Capitol Hill in Lilongwe to stage a vigil protest at the Accountant General’s office, pushing for her deceased father’s death benefits. The OPC assured the girl that she might finally receive her entitlements by the close of business today.

Robert Kalindiza, the spokesperson for the OPC, conveyed to local media that he told the family members at the accountant general’s office that they were lucky in that they came when the benefits were already due for disbursement.

Kalindiza clarified that this response isn’t yielding to pressure but rather underscores President Lazarus Chakwera’s concern regarding the delays. Ordinarily, such payments should occur within a year under normal circumstances.

Dismas Kamenya, Hendrina’s brother, confirmed the meeting and the assurance offered. However, he remained cautious, noting that they’ve encountered numerous pledges before without resolution.
