The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has officially dissolved its National Executive Committee (NEC), leaving the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to take the reins of the upcoming elections. Initially, the convention agenda included a review of the party’s constitution, but President Lazarus Chakwera proposed deferring this to a policy conference later in the year, arguing that focusing on it now would delay the primary business—the elections.
As the night progresses, delegates at the ongoing MCP Convention will cast their votes for the following positions:
- President (already confirmed as unopposed).
- First Deputy President
- Second Deputy President
- Secretary General
- Treasurer General
- Organising Secretary
- Director of Women
- Director of Youth
The political stage is set for a decisive night, with key positions up for grabs and the future leadership of the party hanging in the balance.
