Mozambique Falls for Chakwera: Chissano University Honors Malawi’s President with Doctorate

Chakwera awarded honorary doctorate degree

President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi has once again demonstrated the immense value of nurturing strong relationships with neighboring countries, as Mozambique has honored him with a Doctor Honaris Causal In International Corporation for Development. This prestigious recognition comes as President Chakwera embarks on a two-day state visit to Mozambique at the invitation of President Filipe Nyusi, highlighting the deep and cordial ties between the two nations.

In a grand gesture acknowledging President Chakwera’s relentless efforts to bolster bilateral relations, Joaquim Chissano University has bestowed upon him an Honorary Doctorate in International Relations and Leadership. These renewed ties between Malawi and Mozambique are set to unlock significant benefits, including enhanced trade, the establishment of the Mozambique-Malawi electricity interconnection, the refurbishment of the Nacala railway line, and the facilitation of free movement between the two countries.

Following his visit to Mozambique, President Chakwera will head to Harare, Zimbabwe, to participate in the 44th Ordinary Summit of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Heads of State and Governments on August 17, 2024. This summit will provide President Chakwera with an opportunity to engage with regional leaders and further advance Malawi’s Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining Strategy (ATM).
