Mighty Wanderers President Thom Mpinganjira warns supporters to refrain from hooliganism

Thompson Mpinganjira

Renowned business magnate Thom Mpinganjira who is the President of Mighty Wanderers Football Club has issued a stern warning to Mighty Wanderers supporters, particularly those in Lilongwe, against succumbing to violence and hooliganism during the team’s matches in the capital. This admonition follows the football governing body, the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), imposing a substantial monetary penalty on the club for causing damage to facilities at Bingu National Stadium in the aftermath of a contentious refereeing decision during an Airtel Top 8 match against Silver Strikers.

In a widely circulated video on social media, Mpinganjira emphatically asserts that should such unruly behavior persist, he will not hesitate to enlist the Police Mobile Force (PMF) to maintain order during any Mighty Wanderers game in Lilongwe. Expressing his aspirations, Mpinganjira articulates a desire for his team to clinch the TNM Super League title this season along with at least two other coveted cups. The previous season saw Mighty Wanderers laboring without silverware, despite robust sponsorship and a squad brimming with talent.

Demonstrating a commitment to overhaul the team, the President has taken decisive action by dissolving both the club’s national and regional supporters committees shortly after appointing a new board of directors. This strategic move underscores Mpinganjira’s determination to usher in a new era of success for the Mighty Wanderers.

“Take notice that Mighty Wanderers Football Club (2021) Ltd has dissolved the supporters board, the national supporters committee and the regional supporters committees. The dissolution is with immediate effect. All matters requiring the attention of the dissolved bodies shall be directed to the Board Secretary, Mr Chancy Gondwe,” the letter reads.
