MEC DECLARES ANOTHER MCP CANDIDATE MASACHE WINNER UNOPPOSED: MCP 2 OTHERS 0

The ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has tightened its grip on Lilongwe Chilobwe Constituency in a dramatic clean sweep that leaves the opposition gasping for air — and the presidential race as the only battle left standing.

In a statement from the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), Director of Media and Public Relations Sangwani Mwafulirwa confirmed that Mr. Gideon Masache of the MCP has been declared winner for the Nyang’amire Ward local government seat — unopposed. This comes hot on the heels of another uncontested MCP victory in the same constituency, where Mr. Lawrence Chaziya was declared MP without a single challenger.

“With these declarations, only the presidential election will proceed in Lilongwe Chilobwe,” MEC confirmed.

The developments have sent a political shockwave across the opposition ranks. Before campaign dust could settle, two key races have already been claimed by MCP without breaking a sweat. As political analysts note, such early victories are not just wins on paper — they are psychological missiles aimed at rivals, signalling a dominant, organised, and unbeatable machine behind President Lazarus Chakwera’s re-election push.

In politics, they say, momentum is like a river in flood — it sweeps away anything in its path. In Lilongwe Chilobwe, MCP hasn’t just built momentum — it has turned the tide before the whistle has blown.

For the opposition, the message is painfully clear: the battle here is already lost. For Chakwera, it’s another red flag planted on the road to September 16, 2025 — a date that is fast looking like a coronation day.
