There is something deeply inspiring—almost poetic—about the Malawi Congress Party youth. In an era where some political youth wings are remembered for chaos and intimidation, the MCP youth stand tall as a symbol of purpose, compassion, and national pride. Where others destroy, MCP youth build. Where others chant slogans of division, MCP youth sing songs of unity and gratitude.
This week, the winds of hope blew through Chitanda Village in Traditional Authority Kabudula, as energetic and joyful MCP youth stormed the area—not with noise or destruction, but with tools, bricks, and hearts full of purpose. Their mission? To honour a living legend—Gelsomo Jailosi Dambuleni, the longest-serving drum beater of the Malawi Congress Party, who has pounded rhythms of revolution and celebration since 1964.
At 78 years old, Mr. Dambuleni is more than a drummer. He is a thread in the fabric of Malawi’s political history, having entertained presidents, ministers, MPs, and citizens alike with his unforgettable drumbeats. And now, in his time of need, the MCP youth did not forget him—they remembered him with action.
Tears of joy flowed as Dambuleni stood in disbelief, his heart overwhelmed by the gesture. “When you have good behaviour, good deeds follow you,” he declared, breaking into impromptu songs praising President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and welcoming Deputy Minister of Transport and Public Works, Hon. Baba Steven K Malondera, with drum and voice in perfect harmony.
Hon. Malondera, the party’s National Youth Director, lauded the youth for their vision and compassion. He pledged his full support, encouraging them to carry the same energy across all regions. “Let’s not stop here,” he urged. “Let’s honour every veteran who carried the flame before us. Let this be our legacy.”
Indeed, this is what separates the MCP from the rest—not just in policy, but in spirit. The MCP youth are not mere followers; they are torchbearers. Builders. Protectors of legacy. Carriers of hope.
This is not just a political movement—it is a family, a mission, and a force marching boldly into the future with respect for its past. And as the drums of Dambuleni echo once more, Malawi is reminded: the future is secure in the hands of the MCP youth.
