MCP Sweeps Election: Landslide Victory Against Opposition 3-0

Kachale

The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has once again asserted its unparalleled dominance in Karonga district, securing a clean sweep of all three Ward Councillor seats. This resounding victory serves as a stark reality check for the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), compelling them to confront their political standing ahead of the 2025 elections, where the prevailing trends suggest a decisive win for the ruling MCP.

MEC Chairperson, Justice Chifundo Kachale, announced the results at Maghemo Secondary School, the commission’s designated tally center, amid cheers and celebration from MCP members. Out of the 21 candidates vying for seats, Alick Ng’oma emerged victorious in Chilanga Ward with 1,516 votes. Gift Kumbukani Mwale secured the win for Rukuru Ward with an impressive 5,854 votes, while King Ngayambimba Mvula triumphed in Kaporo Ward with 1,662 votes.

Kachale emphasized the fairness of the elections in the three wards, commending them as exemplary for the district and the nation. He also announced plans for MEC to educate communities on new electoral laws through local councils.

Furthermore, Kachale cautioned the newly elected councillors against corruption, underscoring the consequences faced by former councillors imprisoned for such offenses.
