Malawi Congress Party (MCP) senior official and Lands Minister, Deus Gumba, today took centre stage in Lilongwe Chilobwe Constituency, leading a vibrant campaign rally in support of President Dr Lazarus Chakwera’s re-election and parliamentary hopeful Lawrence Chakakala Chaziya.
Gumba, himself MP for Mchinji, has been among the key senior MCP figures crisscrossing constituencies to strengthen support for the party ahead of the much-anticipated September polls. Gumba’s presence in Lilongwe highlights MCP’s strategy to deploy top leadership to rally the grassroots.
“Even if your house is safe, you help your neighbour put out their fire. That’s why I’m here,” Gumba told the gathered crowd. He called on Chilobwe residents to stand with President Chakwera and Chaziya, warning them not to be swayed by politicians who only show up with handouts and empty promises.
“Leadership is not about distributing coins today and disappearing tomorrow. Leadership is building roads, hospitals, and schools for all,” Gumba said.
Lawrence Chakakala Chaziya reinforced the message, urging voters to choose leaders who bring real, long-term development. “We have seen what MCP under President Chakwera is doing for this country. Let’s give him the mandate to continue beyond 2025.”
The rally, held today in Nthondo, drew large numbers and is seen as part of MCP’s intensified campaign efforts across the country. One local elder remarked: “When you see big cattle walking ahead, the calves know which way to follow. That’s MCP for us — leading the way.”
With the countdown to September’s elections in full swing, MCP’s machinery is clearly on the move — and with figures like Gumba taking the lead, the party is leaving no stone unturned.
