In a bombshell announcement, the spokesperson of the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Ezekiel Peter Ching’oma, has declared that the stage is set for the highly anticipated convention scheduled for this year.

According to the jaw-dropping statement, prospective candidates must meet stringent criteria to be eligible for nomination, including a minimum of two years’ steadfast allegiance to the party, showcasing unwavering dedication to its ethos and aspirations.

Furthermore, contenders must boast prior involvement within the party’s ranks, showcasing a wealth of experience and an intimate understanding of its inner workings.

“Additionally, they (contenders) must have held a previous position within the party, indicating their experience and knowledge of the party’s workings,” reads the statement in part.

This bombshell revelation throws aspiring newcomers like Esther Mcheka Chilenje, who harbored ambitions of contesting for the party’s Deputy Presidency, into a state of uncertainty. The fate of contenders like Engineer Mumba, who also harbored aspirations for the same position, hangs in the balance as this stringent criterion casts a shadow over their eligibility.
