We finally have a real government in Malawi. Gone are the days when the President would leave the country with little to no communication about their activities. With the current leadership, Malawians are kept informed minute by minute, event by event, about what their President is accomplishing on their behalf.
In Germany, President Chakwera has concluded his visit and is now returning to Malawi after engaging in a high-level bilateral meeting with His Excellency Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany, at his official residence. During this crucial meeting, the two leaders delved into the long-standing relations between Malawi and Germany, which have flourished since 1964—the year Malawi gained its political independence. They agreed to not only sustain but also strengthen these ties, particularly as Malawi advances its development agenda under the Malawi2063 Vision.
“I am delighted that the German government and all stakeholders I’ve engaged with fully support our strategy, which prioritizes Agriculture, Tourism, and Mining as key sectors for economic growth,” the President shared on his Facebook page.
While in Germany, President Chakwera secured a groundbreaking agreement with a German shipping company to launch state-of-the-art ship operations on Lake Malawi. Additionally, he signed a crucial deal with Lübeck University to bolster Malawi’s health sector. This collaboration will bring specialized training for Malawian nurses and midwives, focusing on the prevention and treatment of non-communicable diseases.
In a significant boost to the energy sector, the President also locked in a landmark project with a 70 million Euro investment from Sun Power Africa Development Limited. This investment will fund the construction of a 50-megawatt solar farm at Choma in Mzuzu, a project set to be spearheaded by Mzuzu University.
