Malawian Afro-Pop Star, Dan Lu, Excoriates DPP as “Hungry Hyenas”

In a scathing condemnation that has reverberated across Malawi’s political sphere, renowned afro-pop artist Dan Lu has blatantly leveled a scathing critique against the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), likening its leaders to “hungry hyenas” undeserving of further opportunities to lead the nation.

This fiery accusation comes as Dan Lu prepares to officially join the ranks of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) at a rally scheduled in Ekwendeni, Mzimba district. Known for his ability to craft campaign hit songs, the singer has today released a new track titled “CHAKWERA” – a tribute to the MCP’s presidential candidate, Lazarus Chakwera.

Within the song, Dan Lu paints a vivid contrast, depicting Chakwera as a “non-violent lion” who works silently to deliver development, in stark opposition to the DPP’s “hungry hyenas” who, as the adage goes, “steal Fish Eagle’s dinner and set off a chain of events which leads to the hyenas reaching for the moon… with disastrous results.”

This potent metaphor underscores Dan Lu’s firm belief that the DPP, his former political affiliation, has devolved into a ravenous entity, driven by insatiable greed and unfit to lead the nation. The singer’s defection to the MCP camp is a testament to the shifting tides of public sentiment, as he cites the overwhelming support for Chakwera among his constituents in Mangochi as the primary catalyst for his decision.

Predictably, the DPP stewards has responded by accusing Dan Lu of having received financial inducements from the MCP to abandon the “hyenas’ club.” However, the artist dismisses these allegations, asserting that his decision is rooted in the will of the people of Mangochi whom he aspires to represent.

As Dan Lu prepares to officially join the MCP, the stage is set for a political showdown, with Dan Lu’s musical talents and his bold stance against the “hungry hyenas” poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the outcome of the upcoming poor performance of the DPP in Mangochi. His scathing critique of the DPP as a pack of “hungry hyenas” serves as a potent preview of how the people of Mangochi are now judging DPP to be.

“Chakwera sakuchoka mum’boma. Boma ndilomweli”., says Dan Lu in a comment to his own Facebook post, attracting an approval comment from his wife, Katerina who says “palibe kusintha boma…”
