Malawi Red Cross hands over 7 houses to cyclone Freddy Survivors

Malawi Red Cross

The Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) has provided a glimmer of hope to Cyclone Freddy survivors in Phalombe District by presenting seven newly constructed houses. Valued at K50 million, these houses serve as a testament to the combined efforts of various organizations committed to easing the challenges faced by the affected community.

The funding for this initiative came from Big Win, a philanthropic organization based in the UK, and was secured by Cyclone Goodwill Ambassador Dr. Joyce Banda through the Joyce Banda Foundation. Edith Akridge, Managing Director of the Joyce Banda Foundation, revealed that the funds were directed through the foundation and expressed gratitude for the positive impact of the intervention. Group Village Headman Malima expressed satisfaction with the development and encouraged other well-wishers to follow suit.

Last year, the Goodwill Ambassadors, former Presidents Dr. Bakili Muluzi and Dr. Banda, handed over 45 houses, and this recent addition brings the total to 52 in Phalombe alone.
