Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera to Inaugurate Zomba Stadium on Thursday

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera will today Thursday going to officially open the newly constructed Zomba Stadium, according to a statement signed by the Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Colleen Zamba.

Zomba City Council spokesperson Aubrey Moses said the launch of the facility is expected to boost tourism, enhance revenue, and play a key role in nurturing grassroots talent. He noted that the stadium will give young athletes a chance to learn from and interact with established players, creating an environment that encourages skill growth.

Football analyst Parry Chinyama welcomed the development, describing the stadium as a perfect venue for major football fixtures and a central sporting hub for Zomba.
“This exposure to higher levels of play will serve as an invaluable experience, motivating and inspiring the youth to strive for improvement and reach their full potential,” Chinyama said.

Work on Zomba Stadium started in 2017 with the initial completion target set for October 2020. However, the project suffered delays due to funding challenges. The government later committed 6 billion Kwacha to accelerate the second phase of renovations.

The facility, which can host up to 20,000 spectators, is now set to become one of Malawi’s leading sports arenas.
