Pres. Chakwera in Kasungu

Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera on Saturday expressed his appreciation for the commitment of the people of Kasungu to national development. He said this during a speech delivered to a large gathering in Kasungu Boma during a brief stopover on his way back from his trip to Mzuzu.

Chakwera commended the hardworking nature of the people of Kasungu, particularly in the field of agriculture. He emphasized that Kasungu’s industrious residents make it a strong candidate for becoming a fully-fledged city.

The President highlighted that Kasungu has been earmarked for significant development projects across various key sectors of the economy, with the aim of elevating its status to that of a city in the near future. He assured the people of Kasungu that his administration has plans in place to initiate various development projects and economic activities, which will, in turn, generate employment opportunities.

Furthermore, President Chakwera pledged the government’s commitment to reviving many of the dormant irrigation schemes in the district, with the goal of restoring Kasungu to its reputation as a food-producing hub.

Prior to the mini-rally in Kasungu, President Chakwera visited the Chatoloma Quarry Site, where he received a briefing from Mota Engil officials regarding the progress of rehabilitation work on the M1 Road, specifically the section stretching from Kasungu to the Mzimba turn-off.
