Malawi Congress Party unveils candidates for Karonga local government by-elections

Baka Kalonga Rally

The ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) yesterday conducted a rally at Baka ground in Karonga wherein they unveiled its candidates for the upcoming Local Government by-elections, slated for March 26th, in Rukulu, Chilanga, and Kaporo wards in the border district of Karonga. The candidates are Gift Mwakyelu, Alick Ngoma, and King Mvula.

Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, the party’s Director of Strategic Planning, urged voters to support these candidates, emphasizing their potential to drive much-needed development, aligned with President Lazarus Chakwera’s initiatives for Karonga.

Ng’oma applauded Chakwera’s efforts in rehabilitating schemes like Hara and Wovwe, highlighting their role in promoting food sufficiency. Uladi Mussa echoed the call for unity, urging members of other parties to join MCP in advancing the nation’s development agenda.

Senior TA Kalonga stressed the importance of leaders maintaining close ties with their constituents to foster community growth. Kezzie Kasambala Msukwa, Chairman of the North North region, and his deputy, Uchizi Mkandawire, echoed the sentiment, urging support for MCP councilors in the upcoming by-elections. The by-elections in Karonga district were necessitated by the conviction of three former councillors by the court.
