EU Delegation Reiterates Commitment to Resume Direct Budgetary Support for Malawi

A high-profile delegation from the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs met with President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe on Tuesday. The purpose of the meeting was to enhance collaboration between Malawi and Europe, covering key areas such as regional security, economic cooperation, and joint developmental initiatives.

The EU emphasized its intention to resume direct budgetary support to Malawi, recognizing the country’s significant economic reforms. The meeting served as a crucial diplomatic platform, underscoring the multifaceted relationship between Malawi and the European Union.

President Chakwera reiterated Malawi’s enduring commitment to strengthening ties with the European Parliament, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in addressing global challenges and fostering shared prosperity. The EU Committee’s leader, Hon. David McAllister, acknowledged Malawi’s reliability as a partner and praised its pivotal role in regional and national security matters.
