DPP’s Mwanamveka praises president Chakwera for transcendent leadership for reaching out to his constituency

In a resilient gesture aimed at alleviating food shortages and rescuing hunger-stricken communities, President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera continues mobilized resources to distribute maize to communities grappling with hunger.

Today, he entrusted his deputy, Michael Usi, the Minister of State for Public Service Delivery, along with the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA), to deliver vital food assistance to residents in the Mwanamveka Constituency, represented by opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) member Joseph Mwanamveka.

The distribution highlights a focused effort by the Chakwera administration to address the pressing needs of citizens, regardless of political affiliations.

During the event, Dr. Usi addressed the prevailing political tensions in the region, where some DPP members have uttered remarks aimed at restricting political activities of the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) member in their areas of influence. He remarked that such political division has detrimental effects on community cohesion and holistic development.

“Why do we, as responsible citizens, not ask whether someone’s spouse belongs to which party? Why must we engage in political division to the extent that this region belongs to a particular party, and therefore that party members cannot contribute to the development?” Dr. Usi questioned, underscoring the absurdity of allowing politics to hinder necessary support for vulnerable communities.

Today’s maize distribution was conducted in the Musa community, particularly in the Nkalo area of Chiradzulu District, which suffered from flooding caused by the Namonde River in 2022. This disaster left many families in dire need of food assistance, making the government’s effort all the more timely and crucial.

Joseph Mwanamveka, opposition DPP MP and local chiefs expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting that many residents had recently struggled with food shortages.

“The timely intervention from the government, led by President Chakwera, is indeed commendable and reflects a commitment to the well-being of all Malawians,” Mwanamveka stated.

This outreach initiative is a positive step toward bridging political divides and reinforcing a sense of national solidarity in the face of challenges. As President Chakwera continues his mission to connect with various constituencies, the government aims to reaffirm that public service and support transcend political affiliations, fostering a more inclusive environment for all citizens.
