DPP Installs Mary Navicha as Opposition Leader Amid Nankhumwa Ouster Bid

Mary Navicha, recently resigned from being a Deputy Chief Whip for DPP in Parliament. Now contemplating resignation from the party at once.

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has designated Mary Thom Navicha, a parliamentarian from Thyolo Thava, as the new Leader of the Opposition. This decision was reached during a recent meeting of the party’s leadership in Mangochi.

Navicha has confirmed her acceptance of the appointment as the DPP’s chosen Leader of the Opposition in Parliament.

This move follows earlier attempts by the party to replace Kondwani Nankhumwa, the Member of Parliament for Mulanje South West, with George Chaponda. However, Chaponda’s appearance at a business committee meeting in Lilongwe was rebuffed when the committee reaffirmed Nankhumwa’s position.

Despite Navicha’s appointment, a legal dispute awaits her as a court order still recognizes Nankhumwa as the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament.
