Chithyola’s first National budget as Finance Minister Pass in Parliament

Parliament on Tuesday resolutely endorsed the 2024/25 National Budget, adopting a comprehensive array of 44 estimates. The fiscal plan, amounting to a staggering K5.98 trillion, is earmarked for allocation to the Consolidated Recurrent and Capital Accounts, meticulously aligning with the articulated objectives delineated within the Recurrent and Capital Estimates.

In this budget, the Agriculture Sector emerges as the undisputed beneficiary, commanding a princely sum exceeding K480 billion. Meanwhile, the Health Sector stands to benefit significantly, securing a substantial allocation of K342 billion from the expansive national budget, while the Education Sector follows closely behind, with an allocation exceeding K338 billion.

The Minister Simplex Chithyola Banda told the August House that, “government is optimistic that Malawi Revenue Authority-MRA will significantly play a big role and meet the targets on revenue collection that should be used for implementation of the budget.” The Finance Minister expressed gratitude over the passing of the budget in less than one and half days.
