President Lazarus Chakwera has vowed to fire some employees at the National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) immediately after the September 16 elections, accusing them of deliberately creating the country’s current fuel shortages.
Speaking from Sanjika Palace in Blantyre on September 8, 2025, Chakwera said he is aware of specific individuals inside NOCMA who have been sabotaging fuel supplies. He described their actions as a betrayal to Malawians and to his leadership.
