Grizelda Jeffrey cornered to disclose money received or face jail: DPP Politics

The Director of Legal Affairs in the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Charles Mhango has warned the so called newly appointed Vice President of the DPP in the centre, Grizelda Jeffrey, who is the de jure Secretary General of the Party has been instructed to disclose and give all the money she has collected for the so called impending elective conference or face jail time.

“I refer…to the Press Conference which you addressed on 1st December, 2023 in your previous capacity as Secretary General, where you announced and informed the nation that you have received funding and cash donations from various individuals and organization for the Party to hold the Meeting of the National Governing Council and the National Political Conference,” reads the letter.

“I have been informed by the Secretariat that you have not handed over any such funds or donations to the Treasurer General nor remitting any such funds or cash donations which you have received on behalf the Party into the Party Bank Accounts. I wish to bring to your attention and hereby advise you that under Section 27 (2)’, (5) and (6) of the Political Parties Act, 2018, you are required to declare to the Registrar of Political Parties, the cash donations made to the Party. I therefore advise and ask you to promptly hand over the funds and cash donations to the Treasurer General or remit the same into the Party Bank Accounts. I further advise and ask you to declare all the cash donations which you have so far received on behalf of the Party, by declaring the names of individuals and organizations from whom you have received the donations and the respective amounts,” the letter further reads.

Concludes the letter:

“I further advise you that if you fail to hand over the funds and cash donations to the Treasurer General or to remit the funds and cash donations into the Party Bank Accounts and to declare the cash donations or if you give false information about the donations, fine of the funds equal to the funds and cash donations which you received; and to imprisonment for two (2) years under Section 27 (6) (a) and (b) of the said Act. Kindly be guided accordingly and do comply with the law by handing over all funds and cash donation to the Treasurer General or by remitting such funds and cash donations into the Party Bank Accounts and also by declaring the same to the Registrar of Political Parties. By copy of this letter, the Registrar of Political Parties is notified of your obligations to so declare the funding and cash donations which you received.”
