Malawi is set to start administering Covid-19 vaccines to children between 12 and 17 from January 1, 2022.
Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda made the revelation during a press conference held today by the Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19.
The minister said the Pfizer vaccine which will be administered to children will be delivered through the usual static and outreach clinics in the country.
“Parents and teenagers are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity as our children return to school soon.
“Please note that the Pfizer vaccine requires one to take two doses with the second dose coming after four weeks. We urge parents and guardians to please make use of this chance to make sure their children are protected,” Said Kandodo Chiponda.
The minister also revealed that it has administered all the Astrazeneca vaccines that were set to expire on 31 December, 2021.
She continued by assuring Malawians that the country has enough stock of other Vaccines like Johnson and Johnson and Pfizer.
“Malawi at present has J&J vaccines nearly 700, 000 doses, 400, 000 doses of Pfizer vaccines, and we are expecting 396, 000 doses of AstraZeneca as well as 714, 000 doses of Pfizer with the first quarter of 2022,” she said.
As of 29 December, Malawi registered 73, 238 of Covid-19 and 2,350 people have died from from the pandemic.
