MCP ON THE HIGHWAY TO VICTORY: VOTER REGISTRATION NUMBERS SPELL DOOM FOR OPPOSITION

Sibande

By political standards, the writing is as clear as the midday sun: Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is cruising towards another easy win, and the opposition looks like chickens scattered in a storm.

Political commentator Lyson Sibande has compared the latest voter registration figures released by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to a football match already won before kick-off. Speaking to MBC Digital, Sibande said most of the registered voters are from the Central Region — a place where MCP support is as sure as the sun rising in the east.

“With heavyweights like Peter Mutharika, Dalitso Kabambe, Kondwani Nankhumwa and Atupele Muluzi splitting each other’s support like hyenas fighting over a small bone, MCP is walking through this race with no sweat,” Sibande said, adding that these candidates are busy playing checkers while Chakwera is playing chess.

He stressed that the real battle isn’t on polling day but during voter registration. “That’s where elections are won,” Sibande warned, implying the opposition wasted time barking instead of biting.

On her part, MCP Publicity Secretary Jessie Kabwila didn’t mince her words either. She said the party is ready to bury the opposition in a landslide so big, it will feel like trying to stop a river with bare hands.

“President Chakwera is firmly on the path to continue leading this country until 2030. Malawians have spoken through these numbers already,” Kabwila said confidently.

As things stand, unless the opposition can pull a rabbit out of a hat, it seems MCP’s road to victory is already tarred, painted, and cleared — smooth as butter on warm bread.
