Zikhale Ng’oma Crowned Without a Fight: MCP’s Political Rockstar Shines Brighter in Nkhata Bay

Zikhale Ng'oma

In a powerful display of political muscle and grassroots loyalty, Minister of Mining and Nkhata Bay South’s ever-determined son, Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma, has cruised unopposed to secure the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) ticket for the 2025 parliamentary race — sending a loud and clear message that his home turf remains unshakably his.

The dramatic coronation unfolded at Chifira Ground this past Sunday, where crowds rallied not just to endorse a politician, but to reaffirm their trust in a man many have begun calling the “engine room” of the MCP in the North. With no rival daring to stand against him, the message was crystal clear: Zikhale isn’t just running — he’s commanding.

Alongside Zikhale, two other MCP ward councillors — Mauka Chirwa of Tukombo and Laban Job Chirwa of Mbamba — also retained their positions without opposition, signalling a wave of internal unity and quiet strength in the district.

Grateful but composed, Zikhale humbly thanked his people for the overwhelming show of confidence, vowing to push even harder for development and upliftment in Nkhata Bay South. “I don’t take this lightly,” he said. “This is a call to serve, again — and better.”

But while Zikhale soared in South, tensions boiled over in neighbouring Nkhata Bay Central where chaos and confusion forced the suspension of MCP primaries between Raphael Mhone and Changa Kaunda. Tempers flared, camps clashed, and the party had to hit the pause button — a stark contrast to the calm confidence reigning in Zikhale’s domain.

As MCP officials scramble to find a new date for the disrupted vote, one thing is already certain: in Nkhata Bay South, Zikhale Ng’oma’s political star is burning bright — and it’s lighting a clear path toward Parliament once again.
