His Excellency, Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, has expressed deep appreciation for the robust bilateral relationship shared between Malawi and the People’s Republic of India.
During a meeting at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe on Friday with Indian President Her Excellency Smt. Droupadi Murmu, President Chakwera acknowledged the steadfast social and economic support provided by the Indian government to the people of Malawi.
Following the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nancy Tembo shared insights with the media, highlighting President Chakwera’s gratitude towards India’s ongoing assistance in various sectors, including trade, health, education, military peacekeeping efforts, and recent humanitarian aid.
“Our President is thrilled that the Indian President chose to visit Malawi. He also recognized the support we receive from India in global forums, where India’s advocacy for least developed countries ensures they receive equitable consideration on the world stage,” Tembo stated.
President Murmu is on a three-day official visit to Malawi. Earlier that day, she toured the National Memorial Park in Area 18 and the Kamuzu Mausoleum in Lilongwe, part of her itinerary to discover culturally and historically significant sites in the country.
