In a striking display of grace and statesmanship, President Lazarus Chakwera has once again proven his magnanimity, despite being ruthlessly attacked by Patricia Kaliati, UTM’s Secretary General. Kaliati, whose unfounded allegations against the President culminated in a fiery declaration of her party’s exit from the Tonse Alliance, has been relentless in her public assaults on the Malawi leader. Yet, Chakwera, ever the fatherly figure, has refused to stoop to retaliation—even when the opportunity was ripe.
In a move that left many speechless, Chakwera warmly greeted Kaliati’s daughter, now serving as a diplomat in China—a post secured under Chakwera’s administration. The image of the President shaking hands with the young diplomat stands in sharp contrast to the political venom her mother has been spewing back home, causing discomfort to the regime sympathisers.
