In a gesture of compassion during the Easter season, President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has granted clemency to 49 prisoners, as announced by the Ministry of Homeland Security. Among those pardoned are individuals who have completed half of their sentences, as well as the elderly, the chronically-ill, and female inmates accompanied by their children behind bars.
Additionally, President Chakwera has implemented a broader act of leniency, reducing the sentences of all remaining prisoners by six months.
