President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has stressed the significant development strides made by his administration in Mulanje District, stating that these efforts are crucial to the district’s ongoing progress.
Speaking during his State of the Nation address at Parliament building in Lilongwe, President Chakwera outlined key achievements, starting with the disbursement of K300 million in loans for fertilizers, alongside a 519 million kwacha investment in farming equipment through the AGCOM II program to boost agricultural productivity.
He also highlighted that his administration has provided AIP subsidies to 4,289 farming households, and spent 7.4 billion kwacha on relief aid, benefitting 69,497 households in the district.
Addressing economic and security improvements, President Chakwera assured that his government is working to make Mulanje a more secure environment for business development.
He disclosed that construction is underway for 26 security houses aimed at improving safety in the district.
On human capital and infrastructure development, the President noted several key investments, including the construction of 46 new secondary school classrooms, 21 new primary school classrooms, and the recruitment of 449 new teachers to enhance the education system in Mulanje.
Additionally, the government has made strides in improving access to essential services. A total of 11,111 schools have been connected to electricity, and 155 households have gained access to power.
In a bid to improve water access, 650 households have been provided with free water connections.
